Lake Charles Memorial Hospital

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, the main campus of the Memorial Health System, is the region's largest medical complex, serving the healthcare needs of Southwest Louisiana. A not-for-profit, community-owned hospital operated by a Board of Trustees from the community it serves, it is fully licensed by The Joint Commission, a national hospital accreditation organization.

The main hospital located on Oak Park Boulevard consists of 314 acute care beds along with specialty care in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Physical Rehabilitation, Pulmonology, Radiation Oncology, Rheumatology, Sports Medicine, Trauma Surgery, Urology, Psychiatric, full service laboratory and diagnostic imaging, as well as breast health, cancer center, gastroenterology center, home health, wound care and sleep health specialty services.

Since 2006, Memorial has expanded services, physicians, technology and facilities. To date, over $177 million in capital projects have been implemented including expansion and/or modernization of cath lab, surgery, sterile processing, rehabilitation, food services, pediatrics, gastroenterology center, and intensive care unit. In 2018, the largest, most comprehensive emergency room will be completed. The new 40-bed Emergency Department expansion doubles the size of the previous space to just under 26,000 sq ft. and includes specialized treatment areas for critical care, mental health and fast track non-critical care designed to improve the care process and reduce waiting times. In addition, there are 6 trauma bays for the anticipated Level III LERN Trauma Program. Treating an average 63,000 patients in the ER annually, as the largest, full-service health system in Southwest Louisiana with the most specialists, Memorial has 24/7/365 ER coverage of board certified emergency medicine doctors. 

More capital improvement projects are planned as Memorial works to ensure it has the best facilities, doctors and service for the residents of Southwest Louisiana. In January 2018, our new, centralized Patient Access Center was completed. Pre-admission and admission services were combined into one,convenient access point located in the atrium of the hospital. This upgrade gives patients a more efficient admissions process bringing all pre-op and admissions services to one location in the hospital. 

Lake Charles Memorial consistently receives The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals. The Cancer Center is also a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC).
